The Glen Garioch (pronounced "Glen Geery") distillery was officially founded in 1797 and this date is imprinted on every bottle. In 1837 after changing hands several times over the years, the distillery was finally returned to the Manson family. Just 17 miles from Aberdeen in the very north-eastern tip of Scotland, Glen Garioch is the most easterly Scotch Whisky distillery not just in Scotland but the world. The perfect accompaniment to Parmigiano-Reggiano, the 12 Years Old binds the dryness of the cheese, which in return provides a platform for the malt?s sweet fruitiness and enhances its clean barley notes. Nose: The colour of sharp honey, on the nose heathery floral notes are balanced with the richness of poached pears and the sweetness of malted barley. Palate: Cr?me br?l?e and sweet ripe banana at first, then comes a light oakiness with pear fruitiness, leading to a long smooth, creamy and fragrant finish.

Beautiful, one of my favourites

creamy & sweet - warm spice - sourness with aniseed, fades into a slightly creamy dry aniseed finish

A wee ripper

Been enjoying single malts since an all nighter on Laphroaig 10 in the 1980's so have a few under the kilt so to speak. This, while nary a trace of peat, is a masterstroke of the malters craft. The malt is profound with lovely heathery aromas, classic toffee crunch and a reassuring waft of well worn leather and even a lick of creosote. In the mouth it is assertive yet elegant, flowing across the tongue like the devil in silk underpants, dragging his fingers like little tongues of fire. Bold flavours of bracken, orange pekoe tea and roast pear give way to a deep mineral laden seam of dried fig, Demerara sugar wrapped in delicious fusil complexity. The oak is masterfully mature but understated, some delicious rancio characters give sweetness while the slightly dusty phenolics dry the finish to leave a smile as wide as the Clyde. Do yoursel a favour & gie thus wee dram a nadge, ee ken ye'll nee be disappointed.
