The Machir Bay range is their core expression, first launched in 2012 when it won the prestigious IWSC 2012 Gold Award - Best in Class. Machir Bay is a picturesque sandy beach overlooked by the Kilchoman Church just half a mile from the distillery. Unlike most Kilchoman releases Machir Bay is matured in both Bourbon barrels and Sherry casks affording it a beautiful balance of rich tropical fruit, peat smoke, light vanilla and intense sweetness. Different editions of Machir Bay have been released in 2012, 2013 and 2014.

My new fave

This is a beautiful Islay style, not so heavy as some but beautifully balanced. Has quite a light tone to it with a lemony note, as well as peat and smoke. Lovely finish. Extremely drinkable!

Pety Sweetness

Sweet fruity flavours with lots of peat smoke. Lovely lingering finish.

Affordably complex

Light coloured, and not the peatiest of Islay malts but the Kilchoman Machir Bay definitely has a pleasing smokiness, though interestingly this (to me) appears more on the palate than the nose. Alongside salted caramel flavours there is a lemony hint and a warming spiciness that carries through. A very pleasant, moderately complex drop at a reasonable price - win!

A really good Islay. Plenty of peat but well balanced with hints of fruit and vanilla. Great value around the $85 mark and a nice bit of variety if you're a regular Laphroig 10 or Talisker lover.

Incredible Kilchoman

This is part of a wonderful collection of whiskies from a relative newcomer. Beautiful flavours on the nose and the tongue and an aftertaste that lingers with all that is best. If you want to try something new, this is a risk free venture.
