Sometimes, the most wonderful creations emerge from random, happy hybrids. Take the cross-pollination of Peloursin and Syrah wines, which French botanist Fran?ois Durif discovered. He produced a delicious new grape variety worthy of his own name: Durif, also known as Petite Sirah.
From selected vineyards in New South Wales, winemaker John Quarisa used a mixture of oak barrels and steel tanks to ferment different batches, fermenting dry and then blending for the optimal balance of fruit and oak.
Deep red with purple hues, the nose is intense and youthful, with fresh, ripe blackberries and blackcurrants with well-integrated oak vanilla. Opulent and sweet-fruited on the palate, this is trademark Johnny Q, bursting with those sweet berry flavours and lashings of vanilla, raisin, cedar and coffee.
