First time I've tried the 101, it's like reconnecting with an old friend, one who's grown and matured, good to see you again mate...
Can't go wrong with it in any sense. Boisterous drink drunk straight or in a cocktail. Let it rip and enjoy the ride :)
Great high proof bourbon on its own. High rye and compared to (perhaps unfairly) Rittenhouse Rye it's lighter in favour but just as bright. Here is a weird thing for folks drinking Manhattans, WT101 with Cocchi vermouth yields subtle "dirt" flavour. Rittenhouse does the same and more noticeable with Dolin vermouth but strangely not with Cocchi. Jack Daniel's Rye and Woodfords Rye work great with both. No clue why.
This has been out of stock for a while so I did some experimenting to try find something with a similar ABV, smoothness, and price. Not possible. WT101 drinks at least $20 above its price when compared to others such as Four Roses SB, Rowans Creek etc. There is no other bourbon this quality at this price point. Great daily drinker.
High ABV and packed with flavour. Not as much burn as you might expect, but you can definitely still tell that this is a strong drink.
Personally, I prefer less flavour as this can become quite overpowering after 2 or 3 glasses.
