Giesen Small Batch Pinot Noir 2021 750ml
Only
$18.99
Commercial Description
An elegant and balanced Marlborough Pinot Noir, with silken cherry and plum, overlaid by gentle spice and wrapped up with fine tannins.
The Small Batch collection was created after our winemakers discovered small parcels of outstanding quality fruit which they knew would make excellent wine. Each parcel is individually managed during the winemaking process to retain its vineyard character.
The fruit for this vintage was hand-selected from throughout the Southern Valleys, a region renowned for growing Pinot Noir with great colour, excellent texture and ripeness.
The start of the growing season had some cooler spring, which is the norm for Marlborough. One thing the region wasn?t short of was rainfall. Winter and spring exceeded the long-term average, perfect for topping up rivers and aquifers as we headed into the warm, dry summer months. All eyes were on the all-important flowering period, especially after a very light 2021 vintage. The weather gods were on our side with settled weather aiding fruit set. Summer temperatures were slightly ahead of the long-term average, with February and March cooling down to support long slow ripening, perfect for early flavour development while retaining acid levels. Given the cool temperature, the vintage commenced a little earlier than normal.
The best parcels of fruit from the Southern Valleys are managed in small batches, with a portion receiving whole bunch fermentation. A ?hands-off? approach is used to retain colour and allow the fruit to showcase distinct Marlborough Pinot Noir character. The wine is aged in a mix of new and old French oak 300L barriques from Giesen?s French cooper - chosen because it gives a unique style which helps to lengthen the wine.
Food Pairing: A perfect match for seared venison served with a cherry jus and roasted seasonal vegetables.
Alc 13.5%
