Black Tears Cuban Spiced Rum 700ml

We've been trying a new rum every fortnight trying to find the best one for a dark and stormy. Its meant to be Goslings, but we feel we can do better. We've been through all the usual suspects trying all manner of spiced rum, and this was merely ok. Not bad, not fantastic, but ok. Quite nice neat, in fact very nice neat, but missing the spice punch for a good dark and stormy. Bati Spiced still holds that crown.

I enjoyed this Cuban.long on taste held up well.lottle on the sweet side but for the under $50 it's a good buy .

Nice to find a spiced rum that isn't either sweet or harsh. I like sweet rums but this is definitely a dry one. Don't be deceived by the blurb saying sweetness of cacao - it's a classic rum with spice, not a liqueur spiced rum. Up front cacao flavour but not overpowering - I'd say dark bitter chocolate rather than milk chocolate, and just a hint of something peppery underneath. Not quite the smoothest of rums so it loses 1 star for that, but quite easy to sip neat, and it's smoother than some of the bigger name spiced rums. For the price quite good value. It would go well in cocktails too, or with mixers.

Had tried Stolen Smoked Rum, which I enjoyed but always felt it didn't quite follow through on the promise of the nose. Well, Black Tears has done it for me. Mollasses, Chocolate and Banana on the nose. The delivery is devine with chocolate cacao and the kick of the aji dulce really warming things up. Highly recommend.
