Jim Beam Rye is not a bourbon whiskey, but a Kentucky Straight Rye according to the oldest Beam family recipe from 1795. A Rye Whiskey was the mainstream whiskey before Prohibition, but most Rye Whiskey distillers disappeared during Prohibition. Rye whiskey is a distillate of at least 51% rye. Rye predominates in the taste supported by oak, soft sweet fruit hints and smoldering ash.
