Matakana Moonshine Amber Lightning Whiskey 1000ml

Xmas order placed on a Sunday. This was for a number of items which were delivered by the middle of the week with good notification throughout the order confirmation through to notification of delivery.

The sales pitch pulled me in. I enjoy a straight bourbon on the rocks so wanted to give this a crack. We'd had the Matakana Moonshine Gin and really enjoyed it. However, this was a real disappointment. It's stuck somewhere between a poor whisky and and off Bourbon. The smoky taste is the only discernable attribute. I tried to mix it, tried with lots of ice, the only thing that worked was smothering it with Ginger Beer. Sorry guys. Keep trying but maybe put this one in the bin.

Undrinkable dont waste your money!

This is a nice flavoured distilled spirit and is quite pleasant sipped neat. Sweet and smoky. It is quite low alcohol at 37.2% though and doesn't really measure up to what I think of as a whiskey. Amber Lightning Distilled Spirit may be a better name for it. I don't know about mixing it or having it on the rocks as I think with it already being low alcohol the flavours would be lost on further dilution.

Greatly enjoyed this , straight in a small glass. I loved the smoky taste.
