"These are the three principles by which Abraham Overholt (1784-1870) lived and made his whiskey. He?s the father of American distilling and took uncompromising pride in his product - a legacy which continues today. Old Overholt is the oldest of The Olds, a relic you can drink. This famous Straight Rye Whiskey has a distinctive flavor and appeal that, after Prohibition, made it the most popular spirit in the country. Agreeable means you get along. And Old Overholt does just that. It?s renowned for its outstanding mixability in classic cocktails like the Old Style Manhattan (look it up). The one and only Old Overholt is 80 Proof and aged 3 years.

Tasting Notes: Rich with a tinge of sweetness"

Better Than it Looks

Even though it looks a bottle you might find at the back of your Grandad's pantry, and the product's description downplays it instead of hyping it up with imagined flavours and marketing twattery like so many do, it's a solid, tasty American Rye Whiskey. My first impression was actually of a Speyside Scotch, but with a little bit more oomph, flavour characteristics of virgin oak, surprisingly subtle other hints of rye and American distilling, and a tasty, rich nose. Note: the bottle says 43% ABV (86 proof), not 40% as in the product description.
