The Gospel rye is produced using single-source unmalted rye from the Murray Mallee region in South Australia. The Brunswick-based distillery is currently the largest whiskey distillery in Australia.

Founders Ben Bowles & Andrew Fitzgerald utilised backgrounds in engineering and construction to custom design a six-metre-high Column and Copper Pot Still. The Column Still, one of only a handful used in Australia, helps to retain the unique flavours of The Gospel and is the only one designed and built entirely inhouse.

The Gospel Solera Rye is a sessionable blend of multiple batches, processed through a bespoke Solera system in a combination of New American Oak and Australian Wine Barrels.

Bloody awesome!

I got this whiskey to try against the Macallan 12 year old. For almost half the price, this is a very fine whiskey! The Macallan is more complex and interesting, for sure, but you're paying about twice the price. But do you get twice the taste? No way.
This is a great tasting whiskey that can almost compete with the best. It has a beautiful, enchanting aroma. Is gentle and interesting in the mouth, and has a good, lingering after-taste.
A fine and satisfying whiskey!

Deplorable

There are so many good whiskies in this store, but by goodness, this is not one of them. Easily the worst commercial whiskey I've tried; if I'd made this myself, I would have thrown it out. It would be hard to identify any good characteristics of it, since everything is wrong. I'd say a few things went crooked in making it, but improper aging is definitely one of the culprits (notice how it doesn't even label itself as a whiskey?).

First off, the nose is absolutely foul, almost sewage-like. One of my friends refused to even taste it after a sniff. After a bit of peer-pressure, he had a taste and declared it undrinkable, but still nicer than it smells. Flavours are mangled, unclean, definitely more like silage than rye. There are plenty of good rye and other whiskies around this price point. So where does this one belong? Maybe at the back of the cupboard, ready to be brought out as a benchmark for bad spirit, and a reminder of how lucky we are to have other options out there.
